CCS basketball: Unlikely hero powers Menlo past HMB in boys D-IV final

Junior forward JH Tevis scores winning bucket with four seconds left in OT

SANTA CLARA — In the final seconds of overtime, Menlo School junior JH Tevis was perhaps the least-expected option.

The Knights’ 6-foot-5, 241-pound power forward drove the baseline and scored on a layup with four seconds to play in the extra session to win the game 42-40 with the biggest bucket of his life — and his only hoop of the night — to turn Menlo into the Central Coast Section Division IV boys basketball champion.

The taut thriller moved into a 4-minute overtime— and again, points were at a premium.

Menlo had the ball for the last play of overtime.
