After the regular season ended on a disappointing note, the Palo Alto boys basketball team was ready to go Saturday.

Playing against an Independence team that lacked size and attempted to play at a fast tempo, Palo Alto turned its own offense up into high gear and ran away from the Sixers for an 84-60 victory in the Central Coast Section Division I quarterfinals at Fremont High in Sunnyvale.

“We’ve had different teams do that against us,’’ Palo Alto coach Peter Diepenbrock said. “You look at our personnel and wouldn’t think we wanted to play that way. But we like to play like that. We have guys who can run the court and hit shots.’’

Max Dorward led Paly with 23 points.
