Local Roundup: SC’s Ortenblad takes 57th at cyclocross worlds

Published Monday January 30

Santa Cruz’s Tobin Ortenblad, a Pacific Collegiate School alum who attends Cabrillo College in the offseason, took 57th at the UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Bieles, Luxembourg, on Sunday.

Belgium’s Wout Van Aert survived the muddy and slippery course for the win in 1:02:08. The Netherlands’ Mathieu van der Poel took second, 44 seconds back and Belgium’s Kevin Pauwels was third, 2:09 back.

Ortenblad, of San Cruz Factory Racing, took 5th place in the elite division at the 2017 America Cyclocross National Championships in Hartford, Conn., earlier this month.

Pitcher Joshua Rodriguez went 5 innings for the win, allowing 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out two.
